Why do Catholics worship Mary like Jesus?

Let me clarify that Catholics do not worship Mary. They do give special honor to Mary as is indicated in Luke 11:27-28; 1:38, 48 (KJV). This in no way interferes with or detracts from the honor they owe to God alone. After all, Jesus Himself says that if we wish to have eternal life (Mt. 19:16; Mk. 10:17; Lk. 18:18), one of the things we must do is honor our father and mother (Mt. 19:19; Mk. 10:19; Lk. 18:20). The kind of honor given to God alone they call latria (worship/adoration - Ex. 20:3; Mt. 4:10). The kind of honor they give Mary is called hyperdulia (extreme or high honor - Lk. 1:28, 42, 48). The kind of honor they give Christian brothers and sisters (as well as angels and saints in heaven) is called dulia (honor/respect - Rm. 12:10; Phil. 2:29-30; 1 Tim. 5:17).
